Position Description:
In this role, you will develop research and data-driven work on politics, policymaking, and political economy, with a particular focus on China. You should already have a solid understanding of the Chinese political system and have had some experience generating research/analysis in this domain.
The ideal candidate should be highly motivated, have strong analytical thinking and writing, quantitative and qualitative research skills, and have a nose for insights and differentiated research for MacroPolo’s audience that spans business leaders, investors and entrepreneurs, and policymakers and practitioners. You will also have a desire to develop and work with large data sets and quantitative tools. Experience working in China or in a relevant field is also beneficial.
In addition to working collaboratively with the analytical team, you should also be able to independently determine and execute your own research agenda, as well as publish under a regular schedule. Finally, you should feel comfortable operating in an entrepreneurial, fast-paced, and performance-oriented culture.
Key Responsibilities:
Analyze elite politics, policymaking, and bureaucratic politics in China;
- Conduct both quantitative and qualitative analysis on the Chinese political economy;
- Develop domain expertise and work cross-functionally with the creative team;
- Work with leadership and other team members in developing and leading analytical products in various forms;
- Pursue relevant cross-country comparative research;
- Regularly publish original and timely work under your byline;
- Engage with media and participate in or speak at events as
Qualifications:
- A Master’s degree in relevant field and authorization to work in the United States;
- Excellent analytical and research skills and the ability to write effectively and communicate clearly in English (native or near-native);
- Ability to use various quantitative tools and harnessing technology to conduct research is strongly preferred;
- Familiarity with data software and data analysis methods is strongly preferred;
- Chinese language proficiency preferred but not necessary;
- 1-2 years of experience in relevant research is preferred but not
